European Commission reviews consortia block exemption

The European Commission's DG Competition has started the Review process on Commission Regulation (EC) No 906/2009 on the application of Article 81(3) [101(3)] of the Treaty to certain categories of agreements, decisions, and concerted practices between liner shipping companies (consortia).

The Commission started the review process this spring by sending requests for information to individual carriers and customers.

HLPFI understands that a public consultation will take place at a later stage, possibly sometime in the beginning of 2014.

DG COMP would aim at closing the process in 2014 as the Consortia Block Exemption Regulation (BER) expires in April 2015.
